Marion’s was planted over 40 years ago on a unique, picturesque site overlooking the River Tamar outside of Launceston, Tasmania. The 2nd generation of talented winemaker Cynthea Semmens and her brother Nick Onassis (lately famous for TV’s Famer Wants A Wife) took the reins in 2018 and are converting the property for organic certification (with biodynamic principles). A fresh start for one of Tasmania’s older vineyards.
Marion’s Vineyard, Blanc de Blanc, Chardonnay, Tasmania, 2013
Medium straw gold. Persistent, fine beading. Rich and developing well. Creamy vanilla tones, double whipped cream, peachy stone fruit, lemon rind, quince, piquant mince ginger, celery seed, cinnamon spice and a soft smokiness. Fuller BdB style that has been allowed to bloom well. Signature Tasmanian acidity still provides drive and length under richer honeyed, creamed fruits. At 7 years old, this will hold on a little longer yet it feels this is at the peak of the apex now.
