Sourced from the fridge of my mother in law, comes this Yarra Chardonnay from a warm vintage. 30% new French oak. Note, the bottle image is of 2017 and the current available vintage is 2018.
Sunshine Creek, Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, 2016
Big wafts of peach and nectarine stonefruit. Eggy custard sulfide and the rawness of the oak still sitting through the middle before it drifts off into flinty smoky creaminess. A little more cohesive on the palate, if in the fuller spectrum with good varietal fruit, yet the oak still feels raw and the acid just a bit too tart. Both texture and flavour drop away sooner rather than later. Definitely one for now.
