Each time I read this label, I have to double check it’s not “damson” after the plum, which is an acknowledged Merlot flavour. Anyway, enough of my mild dyslexia. From the talented hands of Elena and Zar Brooks. The 2020 has just been released but this will be out and about.
Dandelion Vineyards, Damsel of the Barossa, Merlot, Barossa, 2019
Medium garnet with a little deep brick red at the rim. Blueberry and blue plum, cedary and vanilla tinged oak with a kiss of char, easy chocolate, meaty/umami almost fish sauce undertone and established stalky rosemary herb. Keeps things lean and tight with a heart flutter of acidity. Tannins are firm, if a little waxy. Admirable to not issue a flabby plush thing that Merlot is oft-known for, but in this case a little more weight would balance things out.
