Allegiance Wine have their home in Chardonnay country of Tumbarumba, NSW, but here find fruit from a “single vineyard” in an unnamed region of South Australia.
Allegiance Wines, The Fighter, Tempranillo , South Australia, 2019
Deep bruise purple, near opaque. Meaty and chock full of raspberry/blackberry jam, black cherry, chocolate buttons, cigar tobacco and cool leafy Thai basil. Full and driving on the palate with a one, two punch combination of raspy tannins and sharp acidity. Flavour profile has plenty of black cherry fruit and bitter coffee grounds over dark chocolate. Standalone it’s a bit of work, but I think with a big platter of BBQ lamb ribs or miso eggplant and it’ll find its match.
