I first tasted this wine in November 2020. Recently sent to me again in a media samples mail out, a re-visit 18 months later isn’t such a bad thing.
Made from a single block on the estate on 45+ year old vines.. Mix of new to 4 year old French and American oak for around 20 months.
Blue Pyrenees Estate, Section One, Shiraz, Pyrenees, 2018
Deep garnet with just violet purple rim. Choc/orange and vanilla essence nose with comforting flannel, ground pepper, plum flesh, bluestone and now a suggestion of protein, earthy depth of aged cheese rind. A touch of mint, too. Ageing well. Still youthfully full bodied with a solid, firm tannin structure under cool, dark fruits. Plenty of time to go in the cellar.
RRP: $44 (cheaper for club members)
