The 10th release of this label from Dylan McMahon of Seville Estate in the Yarra Valley and Matt Burton of Gundog Estate. 2021 sees the George’s vineyard picked later than its sibling label. Bottle image is of 2018, but nought else is different.
Burton McMahon, George’s Vineyard, Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, 2021
Pale straw yellow hue. More winemaking influence initially on show with yeasty lees influenced dinner roll and struck match, flinty phenolics over stone fruit and a little cream. More savoury and angular than the D’Aloisio’s with palate weight and depth being brought to bear from the winemaking. Intensity is ratcheted up a couple of notches with focused and direct limey acid drive. Balanced now for those that like a little sharpness and ready for a couple of years in the cellar. A very good Chardonnay.
