No ambiguity of where this sits in the Grigio v Gris argument.
Peter Lehmann brand was acquired a few years ago by Casella Family Brands (most famous for the ubiquitous [yellowtail]). Here the Barossa born label takes fruit from the much cooler Adelaide Hills their aromatic whites.
Peter Lehmann, Portrait, Pinot Grigio, Adelaide Hills, 2022
Pale lemon hue, hardly any evidence of skin contact for colour and depth. Green pear, hotel soaps, white florals, ripe white stone fruit, grated lemon zest and wax paper. Clean and bright. The bittersweet citrus and green pear neatly float through a (safely) just-textural palate weight. Finish is short and a little blunt but it’ll please fans wanting the varietal experience.
