Barbera, apparently in Piedmont, is what you drink while waiting for the Nebbiolo to be ready. The bottle and packaging attractively embossed with Jupiter astride an eagle, ready with lightning in his hand. Note the 2019 is still available on Longview’s website at time of writing.
Longview Vineyard, Jupiter, Barbera, Adelaide Hills, 2020
Fleshy and ripe raspberry and cherry with a maraschino liquer bent. Bluestone, potpourri, touches of fennel seed, black tea and comforting velvet. Supple and silky front with flavour of dried raspberries. Burnt orange citrus juiciness through a good driving length and with just a last ditch grasp of raspy tannin and ferrous irony blood.
RRP: $40
