The more elegant sibling of the two Hilltops Shiraz, showcasing the diversity of the region. Fruit comes from Roger Clark’s Boorowa vineyard with a cool microclimate.
Note: Bottle image has vintage 2017, but naught has changed save for the year stamp.
Gundog Estate, Hilltops Shiraz No.2, Hilltops, 2021
Medium garnet. Yep, 12.9% Alc. You read that right. Far from being underwhelming or anemic, this is is floral and perfumed. Cola and clove studs with cherries, cherry plums, sandalwood, blood orange, smoky char and fresh picked rhubarb. Just-medium bodied with juicy acidity: all nervy and tightly strung. Tannins are finely knit. Understated elegance with flavoursome red berries and plenty of length.
Rating: 18.25/20 (93/100)
