Malbec originated from the south of France, found a foothold in South America and is well grown in Western Australia, but here Calabria have taken fruit from their own William Vineyard in Nurioopta in the Barossa Valley.
Calabria, Alternato, Malbec, Barossa Valley, 2021
Deep garnet with ruby rim. Black and boysenberry fruit with rooibos tea, carboard, sweet spice, “Parmesan” rind earthiness and choc/licorice. Fruit forward and showing good concentration without being overblown, maintaining class and control. Dark, brooding fruit with supple, puckering tannins and a smoky, juicy finish. Excellent for cutting through flank steak and chimichurri.
