Part of Howard Park’s Distinguished Sites range. Fruit is sourced from the Burch family’s Frankland River vineyards in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. 2024 was a fast and warm vintage, with harvesting starting 4 weeks earlier than ‘usual.’ Fermentation in open vats and closed stainless steel with some parcels racked to new oak for the final stages of fermentation. 18 months maturation in French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons (~25% new).
Howard Park, Scotsdale, Shiraz, Frankland River, 2024

Deep garnet colour. Gravel, mocha, crushed plum, black cherry, berry compote, camphor, white pepper, a touch of demerara sugar, caramel and rosewood. Maintains elegance despite the warm, fast year. Fine tannin, a little raspy and a tight base for dark savoury fruit with cool(er) climate intensity. Plenty of length and structure. Almost an introverted approach to the style (not reductive or backwards). A little time or air won’t hurt.
