Part of my own wine collection from a selection that I bought as quaffers for when it gets late and there’s 40 people in your backyard and they’re threatening to open the 40 year old Corton.
T’Gallant, Cape Schanck, Pinot Noir, Victoria, 2016
T’Gallant have their home in Mornington Peninsula, but this states it is sourced from “cool climate Victorian vineyards.” No great shakes, but pleasant varietal dark cherry, a twiggy lift, blackcurrant pastille note with some blue meat savouriness. Plenty of bright cherry fruit but there’s a tang of heat and finishing with a little metallic note. It’s got some smoky notes and a smidge of tannin. Grab it on special for when the backyard is packed.
