Sparkling Red rarely gets a mention outside of the Christmas period, but when done well it can match many types of dishes. Make sure you’re matching power with power though: Think roast meats, big brunches (with bacon, of course!) or rich chocolate desserts. Old French oak maturation for 12 months.
Di Giorgio Family Wines, Sparkling, Merlot, Coonawarra, 2016
Generous fruit nose with plenty of plush plums and raspberries. The fruit cake brown spice and raisin is unmistakable with sweet milk chocolate highlights. Broad mousse. The palate is plump, rich and layered with plenty of spiced plum sauce, mulberry jam and chocolate. Finishes with an easy natural grip and balanced sweetness. A good value option for a sparkling red.
