Old vine grenache with maturation in old French oak to maintain fruit focus.
d’Arenberg, The Derelict Vineyard, Grenache, McLaren Vale, 2016
Jubey blueberry and damp plums with earthy, coffee grounds and all-spice fragrance. Rippling grainy tannin structure underneath a savoury, textured, layered earthy expression of grenache. Seems almost miserly in the fruit elements of the palate. There’s an old timer’s charm underneath the gruff exterior.
