The Limestone Coast region (including Mount Gambier and Coonawarra) doesn’t produce a lot of sparkling white wines, but Di Giorgio here take Chardonnay from their Kongorong vineyard at Mount Gambier, not too far from the ocean. Traditional method. DIAM cork.
Di Giorgio Family Wines, Blanc de Blanc, Chardonnay, Mount Gambier, 2017
Pale straw colour in the glass. Rich aromas of baked apple, stone fruit fuzz, fresh dinner roll, pea straw, creamed honey and roasted nuts. Layered and textured palate with a creamy mousse. Fleshy baked apple continues alongside toasty, spiced savoury elements. Carrying some depth, the finish is clean and bright. A surprising wine.
