The Houghton Reserve range are now packaged attractively with their cygnet-ure swan in gold. This is blended from Frankland River and Margaret River fruit.
Houghton, Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon, Western Australia, 2018
Black olive and freshly sanded wood. Smashed blackberry, waxed red apple and a hint of astringently, weedy fennel edged greens. Plush and approachable front, as befitting the price point (ensuring can/will win friends) which twists, turns to a hard thump drying, flat broad tannins, with a coda of syrupy anise black fruit. Maybe a couple of years in bottle will help it settle.
