This wine produced in an “Amarone” style: the fruit is basket dried fro nearly 3 weeks (to remove water and help concentrate sugars) prior to crushing, 8 days on skins and then maturation in older oak. Note: Bottle image is of 2015, no change other than vintage year.
Huntington Estate, Basket Dried, Shiraz, Mudgee, 2016
Opaque garnet in the glass. Rich and deep fruit cake aromas: a veritable shelf rack of spices with distinct prune and pine notes. Full bodied. Shows depth and concentrated lines of fresh berry fruit balanced with dried fruits and baking spices and pepper. Long, long flavour profile which eventually drifts through to earthy mocha. The tannins are supportive and firm without being astringent from extract and artifice. A cellar worthy item for many years ahead.
