12 months maturation in 20% new French puncheons, with the remainder 2 and 3 year old. From a “near perfect” vintage for the team at Angullong.
Angullong, Fossil Hill, Tempranillo, Orange, 2018
Some reductive meaty notes that blow off before Belgian Chocolate over raspberry and red licorice. Earthy tar and smoky mulberry and plum fruit too. Eschews the big Rioja cola/vanilla oak dominant style for more subtle French oak cedar. Smoky and chocolatey, it carries a suave flair, yet with full structure under the earthiness and herb spice. The tannins pliable and toothsome indicating some time laying down isn’t going to damage its appeal.
