The pink part of the new Grenache Wizardry series, celebrating the central Victorian wine region of Heathcote. The fruit for this was hand picked then whole bunch pressed and fermented in old French oak casks. Maturation for 8 months on its lees.
De Bortoli, Grenache Wizardry, Rosé, Grenache, Heathcote, 2019
Pale coral/salmon. Aromas of light chalk and just ripe peach with some smoky tuna-meaty elements. Dry and richly flavoured, with some weight to the palate. Finishing with good intensity of flavour and with a waxy tannin grip. Maybe a touch of the dark arts here, yet it stays serious and doesn’t need to resort to fruit sweetness to be an attractive wine.
