From fruit grown by the Materne family on the outskirts of Greenock, n-w corner of the Barossa Valley. Maturation in new and old French and American oak, with only a small portion of the oak being new.
Yelland & Papps, Devote, Greenock, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2017
Deep garnet in hue with a slightly dull rim. The definitive counter to the Second Take range, this offers an intensity and highly strung tension. Meaty smoky reductive elements with “Hershey’s Kisses” of sweet chocolatey oak, some dusty Barossa baking spices and shiny plum skin. Just hitting the realms of full bodied. Inherent meaty elements with straight lines of black/purple fruit that narrow and leave only puckering tannins (yet still with fine structure) and just the right kick of juiciness. This hardly moved over being open for 2 days and will develop into something understated and elegant.
