This is Dalrymple’s main “blend.” Fruit from both ends of Tasmania: Home vineyards in Pipers River (north east) along with Coal River fruit (from just outside of Hobart in the south). Vigneron is the warm smiled and firm handshaking Pete Caldwell.
Dalrymple, Pinot Noir, Tasmania, 2020
Full and evocative: Cherry, raspberry, ginger beer, rich “portello“, flinty gunsmoke, allspice and clove, dried peel, bramble and a handful of crushed thyme leaves. Savoury and dry fruit in a medium frame. Plenty of autumnal leaf, dried cherry, with blood orange and cocoa,. The finish is closed for the moment and the tannins a little raw. Roguish, but with a bright vein of pulsing acidity that should open and unfold in the next couple of years.
