Yalumba’s flagship white. From a 40+ year old vineyard, the handpicked fruit is whole-bunch pressed to older French oak barrels for 11 months. Wild fermentation. Vegan friendly. Benchmark Australian Viognier.
Yalumba, The Virgilius, Viognier, Eden Valley, 2019
Bright, light yellow with green highlights. Intrigue and allure: almond biscotti, ginger shards, just ripe apricot slices, lemon drop/barley sugar sweet citrus, cardamom pod, crab apple and a stony coolness. Layered with latent potency. Almost viscous across the palate, ably carrying its weight with drying phenolics sanding back the tart, tangy fruit. Long, long finish with steely glances at what will become as it ages. Time should prove me miserly.
