International Viognier Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April (the 29th for 2022). This wine was included as part of a comparative tasting pack from Australian Viognier champions Yalumba as some kudos for their fellow Barossa winery, Langmeil, as an expression of how Viognier can play with its (originally) Rhône vineyard friends. I visited Langmeil in late November 2021 and ironically, this is one of their wines that shined at their cellar door.
Langmeil, Three Gardens, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Barossa, 2021
Pale straw hue. Clean, spring fresh nose: Light honeysuckle, almond and apricot kernel, stone fruit flesh, candle wax, lemon gelato and a suggestion of briny tang. Pleasantly structured with enough heft to carry citrus and white stone fruit fresh vibrancy and moreish salinity. Super clean with plenty of interest.
RRP: $20
Alc: 13.5%
Rating: 17.5/20 (90/100)
