The second release of this label from the Burton family’s Gundaroo vineyard in the Canberra region. made in an off-dry style, however this year sees around 26 grams per litre of residual sugar (compared with the 2021 of 41 RS g/l). Note, the bottle image is of the 2021, but nought else has changed. “Vegan Friendly” winemaking if that’s your thing.
Gundog Estate, Gundaroo, Riesling, Canberra District, 2022
Very pale lemon in colour. Sweet brown pear, crystalized ginger, lime juice, lime zest, fly spray, white stone freshness and a hint of salted caramel. Intensity tempered by the sugar which doesn’t douse it or make it too cloying. Buzzes with vibrancy. Matt Burton and the team are proving to be masters of the off-dry style.
