The follow on from the 2020 which gave Elena and Zar Brooks the title of Bushing Monarch! A blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% Riesling.
Dandelion Vineyards, Lion’s Tooth of McLaren Vale, Shiraz/Riesling , McLaren Vale, 2021
Bruise purple and glass staining on the swirl. Greengage, green tomatoes, choc nut bar, plums, cinnamon brown spice, white pepper and an almost blue fruit lilt. There’s also an oiliness on the nose which portents viscosity on the palate but turns out to be deceitful: The body structure (whilst not without flesh), carries itself with a straight spine and a narrow gaze. The tannins tacky and dry from the whole bunches. It it is an “almost” wine….it almost has enough flesh, and it almost has enough depth but while knocking on the door of pure pleasure, it doesn’t quite cross the threshold. Serve with cumin lamb skewers, still pink in the middle.
