Each region has their wine they can hang their hat on: Tasmania sparkling, Barossa Shiraz, Hunter Semillon, Coonawarra Cabernet and McLaren Vale Grenache. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend just may be the regional hero for the Clare Valley. Winemaker is Matt Caldersmith.
Leasingham, Bin 56, Cabernet, Malbec, Clare Valley, 2015
Still garnet red and leavinglong dripping legs. Aromas of cigar box, blue-stone, mint slice (choc/mint), blackcurrant, wet plum and fresh turned earth. Carries itself with gravitas. Filled with fine chocolate and steely, tart black fruits, leading into a tight spiced finish. The tannins are a little sandy, but consistent. No need to try and cellar, this is deserving of a place next to slow cooked brisket and burnt ends.
