This review comes from Shingleback’s deep back vintage catalogue. A slight name change from 2016 vintage onwards: from ‘Reserve’ to ‘Single Vineyard’ as per the bottle image. This wine successful in youth with with a Gold Medal at the 2013 McLaren Vale Wine Show and a respectable Silver at the 2013 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.
Shingleback, Davey Estate, Reserve, Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 2012
7 years on and being bottled under screwcap has meant that the development, while present remains slow. Maturing Rum n’ Raisin chocolate aromas with a nutty edge over blackberry and vanilla paste. Still with echoes of spice kernel. A dense black fruited palate, starting to integrate and which slips through easily, while retaining a woven mat of tannin. A lingering flavour profile of milky, yet bitter coffee and orange juice-esque acidity gives an odd nod to breakfast. In the groove right now.
