Blending the regional heroes of McLaren Vale. This release is from 2 years ago, but gives portent to the potential of the wine. Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre.
d’Arenberg, The Ironstone Pressings, GSM, McLaren Vale, 2015
Fragrant and meaty with a rubbery aspect (that I find in McLaren Vale Grenache), wet brambly leaf, plum, sweet oak with graphite edge over chocolate ganache. Medium-full bodied. More restrained on the palate than the nose suggests: tight and minerally with super fine/sandy tannins and a bright, clear beating red fruit heart and the merest hint of meaty complexity.
RRP: $76 (current vintage)
Alc: 14.3%
Rating: 18.25/20
