The wine underwent 15 months maturation in 1 year to 5 year old oak hogsheads: 80% American and 20% French. This 2017 has picked up a huge haul of awards: Best In Show at the 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards; 3 Trophies at the 2018 McLaren Vale Wine Show (including Best Shiraz) and multiple Gold Medals at Royal Wine Shows Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Hobart plus overseas in Canada and New Zealand.
Shingleback, The Gate, Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 2017
Deep garnet hue to the heart with a bright rim. Rose petals, blackberry, raspberry, plum sauce, a touch of sweaty meatiness, dusty chalk with just a hint of mint-chocolate and ground white pepper spice. There’s a lot going on, but not over blown in any way. Showing excellent balance, medium-full with a very long, persistent flavour tail. The tannins are ripe and finely knit. A bargain.
