Previous vintages of this wine have been handsomely rewarded at wine shows but 2020 has put a stop to many of those shows going ahead. Maturation for 15 months in 1 – 5 year old American (80%) and French (20%) oak hogsheads.
Shingleback, The Gate, Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 2018
Deep garnet core with bright purple rim. Rich and expressive. Choc-nut and rich plums with fine spice, sweet oak nuances, peppercorn and little pencilly wood. Obvious quality dark fruit in swathes. The tannins are a little drying and cloying which detracts ever so slightly from the overall handsome picture. A little time in bottle to see them settle down will reward handsomely.
