Fruit for this wine comes from the Coal River and Derwent Valleys in Southern Tasmania and is made under the hand of Chief Winemaker Penny Jones and her exceptional staff in Stewart Byrne and Kathryn Bevan. 20% of the blend naturally fermented in old French Oak and all the juice spent around 3 months on lees to build texture.
Bay of Fires, Pinot Gris, Tasmania, 2020
Fragrant and head-nod worthy. Plenty of sliced Nashi pear, some candle wax, light rosewater with white peach and slightly leesy ghee funk. Precisely balanced with the right amount of weight, texture and fruit generosity to the contrasting fine sharpness and focus. Intense, long flavour tail of pear, almost grapefruit citrus and this kiss of rosewater sweetness. A fine example of Pinot Gris.
