This could be one of the more controversial releases from Hungerford Hill. The 2020 vintage in the Hunter Valley was decimated by smoke taint from one of the worst bushfires in Australia’s history. A number of well respected wineries harvested next to nothing. Bryan Currie, GM and Senior winemaker advises that their access to the historic Dalwood vineyard, which was away from the fires and smoke free allowed them a lucky break in such a difficult vintage.

Vibrant purple hue with a bright rim. Primary nose: Black cherry, purple violets, plump plum and spicy oak. Some subtle Hunter nuances of leather and dust sneak through with white pepper and anise. More importantly, there’s no apparent smoke taint or influence. Medium weight with bright purple/blue fruit, a fine base layer of firm tannin and a good clip of vibrancy. Comfortable now in its own skin or a reliable choice over the next couple of years.
