d’Arenberg, Stephanie The Gnome With Rose Coloured Glasses, Rosé, McLaren Vale, 2021
A very pale salmon to near rose gold pink in colour. Restrained and almost delicate. A much lighter edition than previous vintages with light watermelon, easy cherry and strawberry red fruits. Hints of ripe orangey citrus and pink rock salt. I understand putting Stephanie on a little bit of a diet from say, the 2020, he’s definitely shed his covid kilos and come out looking lean. The Sagrantino helps keep a little bit of the body and structure, while a touch of residual sweetness helps balance the acidity. The overall feeling is of a dry, crisp wine with a nicely clean finish.
