Smith & Hooper are part of the Hill Smith Family Vineyards stable (which includes the famous Yalumba) and draw their fruit from the old soils of Wrattonbully, just north of Coonawarra with its famous Terra Rossa strip. The fruit is hand picked and the wine wild fermented. Made by Heather Fraser.
Smith & Hooper, Pinot Grigio, Wrattonbully, 2021
A pale gold hue with faint green highlights. Briny hints to varietal green pomme fruit, light musk with earthy sand and damp tea leaves. Heft balanced with puckering acidity. Some phenolic lift from time on lees brings texture underneath base pear and bittersweet citrus. Balanced and clean, just missing a little “x-factor.”
