Clandestine Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Barker, 2020
Midnight panther purple. Nose of squashed ripe blackberries, boysenberry ice cream, fresh mint, baked steak & kidney pie, lipstick polish, cedar and mocha oak. Supple and slick, older French oak lets the fruit tannin do the talking: flyscreen mesh tight. Mint and blackberry/cassis dominate a fruit focused (but not driven) palate: still allows for tactile complexity rather than being jammy bomb with lingering milk choc and a little bay leaf herb and crushed salt action. Calls out for lamb steaks or slow cooked lamb (sorry vegetarians)
