From the pedigree stable of Bay of Fires, comes their flagship red wine (they also have Eddystone Point and House of Arras). The fruit is sourced from 2 distinct and geographically separate areas of Tasmania, the East Coast (dry, maritime influence) and the Derwent Valley (higher rainfall, inland). Picked up the Pinot Trophy at Royal Perth Wine Show. Chief Winemaker is Tassie girl Penny Jones, and is now ably supported by two other Tasmanians in Stewie Byrne and Kathryn Bevan.
Bay of Fires, Pinot Noir, Tasmania, 2016
Like a velvet blanket soaked in the aromas of a quality Chinese BBQ restaurant: this delivers sheets of brown and 5-Spice with cherry/strawberry red fruits. Ever so slightly enhanced with a chocolate button-like richness and an earthy straw bedding. Upfront voluptuousness before fine tannin reels it in and splay to the peacock’s tail with echoing strawberry. Balance in all things and considering the 2016 vintage in Tasmania, still achieves a solid structure along with pretty, spiced perfume. A fine pinot noir that will quietly take its own journey.
