Barossa winemaking done just a little different. 313 days on skins. Wild ferment. Fully family effort here. Pressed off by the Papps kids: Peyton and Campbell. Bottled unfiltered and unfined. Vegan friendly (as it can be). Get in quick, only 1000 bottles produced!
Yelland & Papps, Second Take, Vermentino, Barossa Valley, 2019
Yeah, there’s some chunky bits still at the bottom giving a proof point to the unfiltered/unfined claims. Medium straw gold, almost a light honey colour in the glass. Honeycomb carries through to the nose: over just ripe apricot, lemon gelato, toffee almonds, grilled pineapple core, dirty white quartz rocks and an essential oil waxiness grounding all. Dry, savoury and precise. Wonderful texture with an intensity that demands more attention. Layers that continue to peel open through the long finish with just the right amount of saltiness. Possibly Y&P’s best vintage yet.
