Part of the “Samuel’s Collection” from the consistent Yalumba. Vegan friendly. A fair mix of oak treatments with 10 months in new French oak (10% total in hogsheads and puncheons), the reminder in1 year and older French and American oak puncheons, hogsheads and barriques. Winemaker is Sam Wigan. The Yalumba team have just released the 2019, but this will still be out there.
Yalumba, Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, Barossa, 2018
Harmonious and spiced with boysenberry, “pen eraser,” gravel, quince paste, blackberry, plum jam, fennel seeds, warm leather and chocolate ganache. Silky and full, all parts contributing to a floral and spiced fleshy palate before soft, easy tannins all freshened up with clean finish. Go for an earthy food match: kangaroo fillets with roast beetroot and pepperberry jus.
