Pewsey Vale Estate Riesling 2025 – Revisited

I first tasted this wine not long after release in 2025 8 months later, this knocked off one of the top gongs at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards to be crowned one of the 50 Best In Show (and only one of 5 Australian wines). Let’s have another look and see if I was a little miserly last year. The original Pewsey Vale vineyard was planted in 1847 while the label is part of the Hill-Smith Family Estates. Winemaking legend Louisa Rose’s signature appears on the rear label to show the importance of this brand to house. One of the OG EV Rieslings.

Pewsey Vale, Estate, Riesling, Eden Valley, 2025

Pale hue. A little yellow apple flesh now added to lemon pulp and lime leaf. Stony, mineral linear spine remains in place with that earthy crushed chalk and a suggestion of lychee and kitchen herb flowers. Musk and rosewater, with a little sherbet give weight to an other wise dead straight citrus journey with quinine like savoury nuances. Intensity and presence remain long through an inherently focussed finish. Still a fabulous bargain.
