From one of the older and established labels in the Barossa. If you’ve you not visited “Chateau” Tanunda, it is truly a grand setting on the edges of the Tanunda township. While Chardonnay isn’t the first grape that springs to mind when you think Barossa, there’s plenty when you consider the greater Barossa also takes in the Eden Valley.
Chateau Tanunda, Grand Barossa, Chardonnay, Barossa, 2022
Stainless steel ferment. 12 months maturation in new and older French oak. Pale lemon gold hue. Attractive but shy nose of blossom and figgy notes, with easy white stone fruit, lime juice, grapefruit zest and a touch of caramelly oak spice. Round and voluptuous front palate with plenty of riper chardonnay elements, settling into bittersweet grapefruit tang and a tingle of oak spice. A little strained through the tail and loses its way and finishes with a sharp close. A solid outing for the Barossa and some time in bottle may allow it to develop, else drink now with prawn linguine.
